10 Things To Do In Ramadan

Ramadan is the ninth month in the Hijri Calendar comes after a month of Shaban. This is the special month for Muslims amongst the rest of the Islamic months. It is the month of fasting, Muslims refrain in all food and drink and sexual intercourse during his days as much as possible to stay away from the taboo from dawn until sunset. Also, the month of Ramadan, have special meanings in the heritage and history of Muslims stature; because the revelation began and the first thing that came down from the Quran to the Prophet Mohammad bin Abdullah (peace be upon him) was in much of the night of month Ramadan in the year 610 AD, where the Prophet was in the cave of Hira when angel Jibreel (Gabriel) came to him , and said to him  "Read the name of your Lord who created" [Quran ch. 96 verse  1 ] and this is the first verse that of Quran that revealed.

These are some list of the good deeds which the Muslim should strive to do in this blessed month :

1. Fasting

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said,

"Allah the Exalted and Majestic said: 'Every act of the son of Adam is for him, except As-Siyam (the fasting) which is (exclusively) for Me, and I will reward him for it.' Fasting is a shield. When anyone of you is observing fast, he should neither indulge in obscene language nor should he raise his voice; and if anyone reviles him or tries to quarrel with him, he should say: 'I am fasting.' By Him in Whose Hand the soul of Muhammad is, the breath of one observing Saum is sweeter to Allah than the fragrance of musk. The one who fasts, experiences two joys: he feels pleasure when he breaks the fast. He is joyful by virtue of his fast when he meets his Lord (God)." [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

The Prophet also (peace be upon him) said,
"He who observes fasting during the month of Ramadan with Faith while seeking its reward from Allah, will have his past sins forgiven." [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].
There is no doubt that this great reward not for those who abstained from all food and drink only,
but rather as the Prophet, peace be upon him said :
"Whoever does not give up forged speech and evil actions, Allah is not in need of his leaving his food and drink (i.e. Allah will not accept his fasting.)" [Sahih al-Bukhari 1903]
"..Fasting is a shield. When anyone of you is observing fast, he should neither indulge in obscene language nor should he raise his voice; and if anyone reviles him or tries to quarrel with him, he should say: 'I am fasting.' .." [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

So, if you fast, then let fasts also your hearing, sight, your tongue and all the parts of your body, and don't be the same as you're fasting or not.

2. Observes Optional Prayer (Tarawih prayers)

Allah The Most Merciful said :

"And the servants of the Most Merciful are those who walk upon the earth easily, and when the ignorant address them [harshly], they say [words of] peace, And those who spend [part of] the night to their Lord prostrating and standing [in prayer]  [Quran ch. 25 verse  63, 64]
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said,

"He who observes optional prayer (Tarawih prayers) throughout Ramadan, out of sincerity of Faith and in the hope of earning reward will have his past sins pardoned." [Al- Bukhari and Muslim].

Night Prayer was consistently prayer of the Prophet peace be upon him and his companions.

Narrated Aisha (the wife of prophet), she said:

"Do not give up prayer at night, for the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) would not leave it. Whenever he fell ill or lethargic, he would offer it sitting"  [ Sunan Abi Dawud 1307]

Attention !

You should be to complete Taraweeh prayet at mosque with imam, as The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said :

"He said: 'Indeed, whoever stands (praying) with the Imam until he finished, then it is recorded for him that he prayed the whole night." [Jami` at-Tirmidhi 806
 3. Give Charity
Ibn 'Abbas (May Allah be pleased with them) reported:

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was the most generous of the men; and he was the most generous during the month of Ramadan when Jibril visited him every night and recited the Qur'an to him. During this period, the generosity of Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) waxed faster than the rain bearing wind. [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].
The Prophet was asked "Which charity is best?" He (pbuh) said: "Charity in Ramadan."  [Weak hadith,  Jami` at-Tirmidhi 663]

There is many types of charities you can gives out, bellow are some examples :

  • Offering food to needy, this is one of attribute of the righteous, Allah says :
"And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, [Saying], "We feed you only for the countenance of Allah . We wish not from you reward or gratitude." [Quran ch. 76 verse 8, 9 ]

  • Providing iftaar (foods for breaking fast) to fasters , The Prophet (ﷺ) said,
"He who provides a fasting person something with which to break his fast, will earn the same reward as the one who was observing the fast, without diminishing in any way the reward of the latter."[At-Tirmidhi].

6. Observing I'tikaf
I'tikaf is staying in the mosque for the purpose of worshiping Allah alone.

The Prophet (ﷺ) used to observe I'tikaf every year (during Ramadan) for ten days; in the year in which he passed away, he observed I'tikaf for twenty days. [Al-Bukhari].

7. Going to Umrah

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "(The performance of) Umrah during Ramadan is equal to Hajj (pilgrimage)." Or said, "Equal to the performance of Hajj with me." [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

8. Investigate the Laylat al-Qadr (the Night of Decree)

"Indeed, We sent the Qur'an down during the Night of Decree. And what can make you know what is the Night of Decree? The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months. The angels and the Spirit descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter. Peace it is until the emergence of dawn." [Quran ch. 97]
